Why should we do a redesign? Who outside of design should be involved, and how do we tackle planning? How do we set a proper timeline?

These are just a handful of the questions creative teams might ask themselves ahead of a website redesign. In-house creative teams play such a crucial role in the design, planning, and execution of a modern website redesign project — so we chatted with Dani Balenson, an independent creative director who’s worked with brands like Oscar Health and Vox Media (and helped Webflow with our homepage refresh in 2021!), Michael Rossi, Senior UX/UI Designer at Hubilo, and Webflow’s Principal Brand Designer, Kyle Benson, on the complexities, must-dos, and processes they stick to when approaching a website redesign. The modern website is much different and more involved than web development was during the early ages of the internet. It’s often a — if not the — primary marketing asset for any company. “The web has changed so drastically in the last decade, it’s pushed everyone to come to the realization that rethinking how their website looks and functions is a necessity,” Michael explained. “I’ve worked on a few projects where a team thought redesigning their site meant they had to rebrand, but I was slowly able to help them understand that just because you need to redesign your website doesn’t mean you need to completely change every aspect of it.” Dani echoed this sentiment and sees a redesign as a type of site refresh, which means certain elements of your look, feel, or functionality can remain consistent. “[A website refresh] is a different lipstick, a different eyeliner, a different brow pencil — something you use to look fresher and more modern,” she explains. As a result, a redesign doesn’t need to be grounded in something as large as a rebrand. It simply needs to address a shift in your business or target audience. Dani added that design is a “service of communication” — one that allows you to either speak to a new audience or fix something that’s not working the way you want it to. Once a team comes to this realization, it must take a step back to reorient goals, define desired outcomes, and begin identifying next steps.

I recently graduated as a software engineer. In this post, I wanted to share my first experience of learning and building a dev-ops process.

As a recent graduate I worked in (and delivered!) three group projects. The first was a simplified mini-clone of AirBnb, delivered in one week, the second, an equally simplified mini-clone of Facebook, and the third, anything of our choosing. The last two were both delivered in 2 weeks.f

In each of the group projects we worked with different people and different tech stacks. We also took different approaches to feature delivery. In one group project, tasks were split between front and back end, in the other two, we were responsible for the complete full-stack feature.

 (for the mutexes sync.Mutex and sync.RWMutex) that allows the developer to try acquiring a lock in a non-blocking mode, i.e. if the lock is already acquired, the function will simply return the boolean false rather than waiting for the lock to be released.

This function piqued my curiosity because, although its name is explicit, its use cases are not obvious. Let’s collect information about it to better understand its usage.

; i.e., the lock will be handed off to the next waiter.

 will immediately return false. Here is a diagram that summarizes those two use cases:

This is a rather fast operation since it only relies on a single-bit operation.

If the lock is available, the goroutine will try to acquire it the same way it does for the Lock function and return the result of this operation. In case it is not available, the goroutine is not going to spin or be parked; it is a full non-blocking mode.

Note that while correct uses of TryLock do exist, they are rare, and use of TryLock is often a sign of a deeper problem in a particular use of mutexes.

), this feature did not appear to be needed or even to solve any real issue, and none of the discussions previously mentioned brought any real use case. So what could this implementation could bring to the community? Actually, 

 tried to implement a TryLock function but none of them can properly be integrated with the race detector. At least, with official support, it becomes easier to take profit from the race detector natively.

The Go source code does not use this new function internally. However, Go used to have a 

. This was used to acquire a lock during the profiling to scan the stack. In case the runtime was not able to acquire the lock, the trace was simply skipped.

, and many others — implement the same function. Fortunately, 

an old version of the JRE was implementing this function

 giving us another real use case: the lock was protecting a function responsible for purging a queue. Since the queue can be purged by any thread and does not need to be purged multiple times, the first to acquire the lock would perform the task while the other threads can just resume their work.

Get related items of a post in sanity by comparing category array reference with another array

Suppose you have an Array Reference to Category and you want to get all posts with one of the categories listed in the current post. This is usually when you need to get related items.

*[_type == "post" && slug.current == $slug][0] { title, categories[]->, "related": *[_type == "post" && count(categories[@._ref in ^.^.categories[]._ref]) > 0] | order(publishedAt desc, _createdAt desc) [0..5] { title, slug } } // Params // {"slug": "my-post"}

The above code will fetch all posts if one of the categories in the post matches with the current post's category array. This is mainly achived using the 

count(categories[@._ref in ^.^.categories[]._ref]) > 0

This will give you true if any element in categories is also in the post’s category list. If you want 

 to match exactly, you have to compare == count(categories).

Use foo._ref instead of foo->_id, as it’s much faster to not join unless you need what's inside.
